Rutland is a city of 20,000 located in central Vermont at the intersection of two of the state’s major highways… US Routes 4 and 7. It’s central location to area ski resorts, lakes and mountains make it an ideal place to stay while you explore the wonders of Vermont.

Rutland is home to most of the major lodging chains including Best Western, Comfort Inn, EconoLodge Holiday Inn, Red Roof, and Ramada Inn. Most are located on US Route 7 south of the city and US Route 4 east of the city. A few miles east on US Route 4 will bring you to the Killington area and many more lodging choices.
Places to Eat
Major fast food chains including McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s can be found along the city’s commercial routes (US Route 4 and 7). Applebee’s and The Weathervane Seafoods are popular restaurants on US Route 4 east. Royal’s Hearthside at the junction of US 4 and 7 is an elegant yet casual dining experience. Another popular regional chain restaurant, The 99, is located just south of the city on US 7. A few miles east on US Route 4 will bring you to the Killington area and many more dining choices.
Places to See
In winter, world famous ski areas… Killington, Okemo, Bromley and others are just a short trip away. Wilson Castle and the Proctor Marble Exhibits and great side trips. In the summer you have literally dozens of lakes, ponds and streams for fishing, swimming and other water sports. Autumn is king here and ther is no better place on earth to witness nature’s beauty than in Vermont.
Getting Around
US Routes 4 and 7 are the major highways leading into the Rutland area. Streets are basically a grid pattern. Most lodging, restaurants and shopping are located along these two routes. Downtown Rutland is a well established, attractive architectural mix of shopping, restaurants and attractions. Definately worth a visit!
